The current R1 dvd is: "X2-X-Men United (Widescreen Edition)"

Based on many reviews, this set is a solid one with DTS track, but is there any special edition in the works?

I've held of on purchase waiting for the eventual re-release.

The picture and sound is fantastic, and the current version already has a boatload of extras. Not really sure what else they can do to it. I would not expect a new edition to come out before HD.

I can't possibly see how they can add more, or release another special edition.

This was released as a special edition, and was on many top ten lists last year. There will not be a "eventual re-release" of either this or the first X-men film. Perhaps a repackaging of some sorts to coincide with X3 when it comes out in May of 2006.

Yeah, the X2 DVD out right now is about as special as I think it's gonna get. There's a 2 hour doc and boat loads of other extras, plus like said above, the sound and video is top notch.

No point in waiting around for a special edition to come out considering it already is out. :)

Unless Fox was planning to do an X-Men 2.5 that basically reinserted all of the deleted scenes into the context of the film (and threw in the TV spots to the film), I don't really see a reason for reissuing it.

I don't get this. The original release is absolutely packed, but you skipped it just in case there's a slightly more packed version later? I know people hate to deal with double-dips, but c'mon folks - live your lives! If you want to get a DVD, get it! Don't postpone gratification because a superior version MAY someday exist.

It's one thing to wait for announced second releases ala the LOTR EEs, but a case like this perplexes me...

I hope there isn't another edition

These double, triple and quadruple dips are getting out of hand

Maybe they could include a featurette on how the actors sat and watched paint dry?

The only other version that they might do has already been stated; promotional materials for X3. This is a great SE with superb video and audio. You can likely pick this up used for 10 bucks, so what are you waiting for?

The current edition of X2 Special Edition has extras that are similar in scope to the X-Men 1.5 release (or X-Men Japanese R2 Ultimate Edition). As I see it, a bonus 3rd disc would be overkill and would probably feature completely useless promo material for X3. (For an example, see the new 3-disc Spider-man Collector's Edition release.)

Great movies are deserving of a double-dip in my opinion. The film is great, and the packaging is wonderful. A trilogy Special'er Edition my come out in 2007, but like I said, that is 2007.
