First off, let me apologize if this has already been covered. I seem to recall it has, but I can't locate where. Anyway ... last night we attempted, several times, to play our Blu-Ray X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST on our Sony DVD/Blu-Ray player, and each time we got a little yellow triangle and a note saying this couldn't be played on our machine. Is there already a Topic Title I can access to find out a way around this? And if not, can anyone advise? I've never had this happen before, although out SLEEPY HOLLOW series is now refusing to let us play the last two episodes. Help!!!

Hasn't been covered here much(BR.com is the most vocal).Questions...How old is your BD player?Does it have the latest firmware?Essentially, the studio is using "death knell" level copy protection. What hasn't been determined is if this title(and future from this studio) are only going to play on post Analog Sunset BD players.

Sam ... we have a 2010 Sony BDP-S370/BX37. We haven't added any firmware, nor do I have any idea what that means! Is Forced Obsolescence now kicking in after only four years? (Just as an aside, Tesla demonstrated Wireless Illumination of Phosphorescent Lamps at the Columbia Exposition in Chicago in 1893! I think about that any time an other light blub burns out.)Anyway ... it sounds like we need to get yet ANOTHER Blu-Ray player, right? Or ... we bought an All Regions Player last year, but haven't used it yet, since we only have one Region Two Disc. Would that solve the problem? And thanks for answering so quickly on my first question!

Yeah, neither this nor last year's Wolverine Blu from Fox would play on my Oppo which doesn't have an internet connection. However, when I popped them in my net-connected PS3 up came a prompt to update the firmware. After going through the update procedure both discs played fine on the PS3. You need to go online and download the latest firmware update for your Sony. Arsehole move from Fox which only hurts the legitimate customers and not the "pirates" to whom this is merely a routinely circumvented inconvenience.

Fritz ... I don't have a Play Station 1, 2 or 3. (I still prefer board games or charades.) Can I do a anything similar with my laptop?

Your 370 is pre-Sunset.Yes Analog Sunset is a thing...(if you look at current BD players, the only video out...is HDMI)It has been rumored since late 2013 that pre-Sunset BD players could be rendered useless. But yes, connect it to the internet(disallow BD Live) and see if it plays.Your other BD player, does it have analog video?

I suspect your all region player would play the disc without a problem, but if your Sony is connected to the internet, you can get it to download the firmware updates that are available. Sam suggested that you use your computer to go to the Sony website and download the firmware updates to a disc/flashdrive and update the firmware manually on the machine. I don't have that model, so I don't know which will work, but if you still have your user manual, I'm sure it would tell you about firmware updates.

I wasn't saying to use the computer."Connect to the internet" meant...Connect the BD player to the internet.

I picked up this title to finally watch a 3D title on my Samsung 4K UHD TV that I purchased almost 9 months ago. Time to check out 3D on this beast!
The only problem it looks as if the Denon DBP-1611UD blu-ray player will not play this title ether! So the Oppo BDP-83 and Denon DBP-1611UD both do not play this title. Anyone else having trouble with this title? Am hopefully going to talk with someone at Denon and see what is going on with a firmware update so I can view this title. So far 0 firmware updates for my Denon 1611!

If you have a Sony bluray and are having issues playing this title unless things have changed Sony is usually good about having firmware updates for there players on there website. My previous bluray player was a Sony and had no issues getting the firmware update!

For most of this year, new Fox Blu-Rays wouldn't play on my Sony VAIO laptop, with WinDVD. I regularly watch 3D Blu-Rays on it, and it works quite well, but starting in the Spring, a message would come up on the computer screen saying I needed a firmware upgrade whenever I tried to play a new Fox Blu-Ray, 3D or otherwise. One of the periodic flurry of computer updates that automatically upload every couple of months must have fixed the problem, because I found one day that all of the Fox discs would now play. Problem solved, I thought. Then I tried the new X-Men movie, and both the 3D and 2D discs wouldn't play because, the message said once again, I needed an update. Fox Blu-Rays take much longer to load on my other players than Blu-Rays from any other company, though I don't know if that's connected. But this specific failure to accept Fox Blu-Rays at all must be a problem that isn't that common or widespread, though it certainly annoys me.

Trying to decide if I should keep the title and wait or return it? It will play via power dvd on my pc but I am not big on watching movies on my pc even though I have a good 27" 1080p Samsung monitor and dual EVGA GTX 460 video cards. Keeping it should not be a negative really since a firmware update should fix it, just a matter of how long is it going to take to get that update available. My player to my knowledge has never had a firmware update issued.

I have a Sony S470. My disc would not play until I loaded the latest firmware. I was 2 updates behind. After that my disc played with no problems whatsoever.

I would recommend Panasonic players.
I had one from 2008 , changed it in 2012 then exchanged it for a Bluray recorder in January.
In all those years I've never had to update firmware in order to get discs to play even when Avatar came out and gave lots of people a headache including Sony . It even played a film ( can't recall the title) when the near indestructible PS3 refused to play some years back until an update a couple of days later.
The usual story is that new forms of copy protection are added to certain new titles and players need updating yet none of my Panny models ever have.

However , I'm in the UK so the latest X-Men film isn't out until Monday so I can't check it yet.
I hope it does play because my Bluray recorder has a firmware upgrade that makes it multiregion for Bluray and dvd so updating the firmware would disable the multi region and UOP deactivation . I would then need to pay £10 to make it MR again

That's what I have, a Panasonic BR player. Im in the US, haven't had any issues playing any BR disc with the small exception of Ender's Game. That one movie took FOREVER to load & start. Ive played The Wolverine with no issue, both the reg version & unrated one. X-Man DoFP I haven't tried yet as im waiting for next years extended Rogue Cut of the film before I buy it.

video also, never did a firmware update either. If it works why mess with it.

My Sony BDP-S770 Blu-Ray player played the 2D disc just fine. I think the problem here is with WinDVD.
