"And last but certainly not least, we received a confirmation from Fox PR today that the upcoming The X-Files: The Complete Fifth Season will indeed be in anamorphic widescreen, and we'll be received a full press release very soon. Stay tuned!"

Well, I'll be. I thought it was season six, but if this true, then hooray.

It's now official; the official X-Files site maintained by FOX (http://www.thexfiles.com/news/index.htm) now lists the video as anamorphic widescreen presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio.
With only 6 discs to the set, the price should be lowered by a fair amount; with improved picture quality and extras as strong as the last two sets, this is certainly shaping up to be a must have set for the spring - can't wait til May 14! [IMG]

How can this set be one less disc than the others when Anamorphic widescreen takes up more space than a 4:3 transfer?

Season 5 drops to a low of 20 episodes (season 4 was 24), hence a disc less.

Remaining seasons are 21 to 22 episodes long.

20 anamorphic 16x9 episodes, and all those extras - great news, even if the price ends up about the same. I've got my preorder placed [IMG]
It's going to be an expensive year for box sets, what with MASH, Star Trek TNG as well.

Despite the one less disc and four less episodes of the Season Five set, they have kept their $149.98 price point from the previous season sets. This seems a bit steep ($25 per disc) compared to other TV product.
