Interested possibly

I have the black (new from crutchfield ~6 months ago). At the same time I purchased the Sony777ES 400 DVD changer, and got it in silver. When I looked at the silver 3805 it had a bluish tint that didnt match the 777ES (which doesnt come in black), so I went with the black 3805. Take a look at the crutchfield pics:

Im pretty reluctant to trade, because I am tre' meticulous with my equipment and know that it has bareley been run, and taken care of extremly well, not to mention that a new one is only 999 on crutchfield, and probably considerably less elsewhere on the net. Could you however post a closeup pic of the front panel in normal light so I can see the colour, and give a little info on what the condition is (looks like i can see fingerprints in the photo...)

I dont want to get your hopes up, but you at least have piqued my interest :)

i'll try to get some better pics. i don't have a digital camera so i'll have to borrow a friend's camera this weekend. the silver 3805 doesn't have a blueish tint at all. i can't say how it compares to the 777 though as i've never seen one in person. the 3805 is great condition. it is housed in an enclosed salamander synergy cabinet. i'll have to look up my paperwork, but i bought it from crutchfield about a year ago. never had any problems from the 3805. for about 95% of it's life, it's only powered the rear speakers as i use monoblocks for my fronts (no center). the fingerprints are from when i removed the receiver during hurricane ivan. the pic was taken after i put the receiver back into place. i've already wiped the 3805 clean since then, but i'll make sure to wipe it down again before i take new pictures. i've been thinking about selling the silver 3805 and buying a black one, but i figured this would be the easiest route first. shoot me an email (kgturner at mchsi dot com) and i'll forward the pics to you once i get them taken.

here are some pics i took of my 3805 before hurricane ivan. again, the fingerprints are there due to moving the receiver to a safer place. i scanned these pics at wal-mart so the quality isn't all that great, but it helps give you a pretty good idea. the silver has no blue tint whatsoever. i'll borrow my friend's digital camera tomorrow and try to get some more pics posted for you. in the meantime, here ya go:

Why do I feel this little ol thread is about to heat up?

Kevin: Thanks for the pics, and I look forward to others if you get them. There is something about the black that obscures the plainess of the face of the unit that I like, however you are correct there does not appear to be any blue tint. Had I seen these pictures prior to purchasing I would have gone with the silver. It is mostly the idea of a trade that still hangs me up (noting with you or your unit, just a general dislike of the idea) The jury is still out though, thanks for the pics.

Omar: Dont go away yet, might still be yours. *I refrained from changing my signature, I dont see how doing so benefits anyone*

i understand your concern about trading equipment. i too had some concerns initially, but i figured that since the denon isn't some cheapie receiver from best buy, the odds were good that anybody who owns one is going to take good care of it. especially a user on this forum. i originally wanted to sell it and purchase a black unit. in looking into it, it appears as though i would end up losing $100 or more + shipping on the deal. a straight trade would only cost me shipping. i should be able to get some more pics this weekend. just lemme know whatever you decide.

Actually, none of the pictures of the silver 3805 do it justice. One really needs to see the color in person. I believe Denon calls the color "gun metal". I've seen a few actual 3805s in this color. I thought the color was rich - when compared to the more plain silver color used by other companies.

Best of luck with the trade. :)

Kevin, my comments about the photos were not directly targeted at your photos. From all of the photos that I've seen - on many Web sites, the silver isn't truly reflected as good as it actually looks in person.

I guess I'm not sure what Denon is calling their color at the moment. I knew in the beginning, it was gun metal. However, they might have reverted the mix a bit and made it more silver. I know the gun metal colored Denon that I saw at the "Great Indoors" store looked really nice. Then again, maybe, the lighting was changing the color in the display area.
