I just came back from a local dealer, and it looks like I am sold on using the Studio 40's for the front and rears, and the CC for the center.
Does 1800.00 sound like a fair deal?
Are the Premier J50 stands the ones I need to put the 40's on?

    John,
    Fantastic choice John!!!!
That's about right on the Studio's....
I suppose the breakdown is $700 for the 40's and $400 for the CC??

I have 4 Studio 40's on Premier J50's, with a Studio/CC and a PW-2200. I'm very pleased with the performance. I think the J50's are a perfect match for the 40's, as they place the tweeters at ear level while sitting down. It also works very well for five channel audio. I can't listen to them enough!

I just got a pair of 40's myself. I don't really find them any better than the 20's. They have a little bit better bass extension. Maybe its because they are not broken in? I have the J-50 stands as well.

I have the 40s as well for my front & rear [IMG] I'm using the J50s for the main 40s, and J60 for the rear 40s. I'm using a short 10" stand for my CC.

Aren't the 40's overkill for the rear? The benefit of having the same (larger) speakers in the rear is so small, unless you ALWAYS listen to all-channel stereo. Even then, sound sources placed behind you are not processed by the brain with the same detail as those in front, I've read. The 20's for the rear would be fine IMO.

In my opinion...no. Having the same speakers all around really creates seamless panning, not to mention great for 5.1 audio mixes. The difference in price between the 20 & 40s is only around a couple hundred, so I built my system to the ideal direct radiating set-up. The 20s will definitely 'do' but if you can afford it & have the space I'd recommend the 40s, even if it's just to eliminate the 'I should of...' later on.

$700 for the 40's seems like a really good price. I think they list for $900? The Studio CC lists for $500.
You could save money by getting the S-22 stands. I think they are just as well made as the J series stands, and are 1/2 the price.
