Would you rather....
Have the ability to change one past event?
OR
Have the ability to change one future event?
Discuss...

Is this a trick question? Since you don't know what's going to happen in the future, how can you change it?
Unfortunately, while it's easy to say things like change Sep. 11, or prevent Hitler's rise to power (and save millions of lives), there are other unforeseen consequences of those things.
So, while I'd be sorely tempted to prevent Bobby Kennedy's assassination, or change the outcome of the last election, I'll go with buying a lottery ticket for a big payout, and then the next day changing the numbers to match what's on my ticket. :)

Prevent the formation of organised religion.
That would sort out a big chunk of the world's problems in one fell swoop.

I agree with George, It was basically the same thing I was going to post, of course it would be good to prevent tragedies, but many more negatives may have happened if we prevented these things. But we will never know. So I think I would just like to leave everything as it is and let life play out itself without knowing what could have and will happen in the past/future.

Normally, I wouldn't touch that comment with a 10 foot pole. However, since it was posted by an Administator, I'll second that one! :)

No tricks. As of this day, you can either alter one event from the past, or keep the past exactly as is and have the ability to alter one event that is yet to happen.
My vote would be to hold on and reserve the right to alter a future event.

What's done is done. It would be easier to change a future event, since it has not happened yet. The future is what you make of it.

I'd go back in time and prevent Matthew Lillard's parents from having sex.

Organized religion has its place and has had its place. It can be a useful tool, and while some benefits have come of it (some art for example), I must agree that it has been very costly (the destruction of art, wars, colonization, etc.). Every single problem the world faces today is a result of overpopulation, and the Catholic Church has had, and continues to have, a large hand in that. Still, without organized religion, the world today would be a different place, and I'm not sure if it would be better or worse.

alright back to the question, I would rather go back in time and change the onset of organized religion to stop the corruption of our Earth today.
That's okay to say, right?

I don't know if this fits, but I'd like to change Osama to female right now.
