I'm planning on buying my Aunt and Uncle their first DVD player for Christmas this year and could use some advice.

Right now am looking at the Sd-1800...

I myself own the Toshiba 4800 and am more than thrilled with it, which is why am really looking into the 1800. My concerns on this model are mainly just reliability. Is this the type of model that will break down in a year’s time and require service? Have you heard any negative information about this model? Would this make a good gift for somebody who's never had a DVD player before? Keep in mind they do not have a HD-TV or anything so they don’t need progressive scan or anything fancy etc. Should I spend the extra cash and go with the 3800?

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks...

I've got the 1800 and have no problems with it whatsoever. It's a nice, basic player that does everything I need it to do.
