Would SVCD be a suitable format to use to transfer 8mm video to? (1 Viewer)

I am considering getting a video capture card. I would like to know if there would be any loss of quality if I transfered regular 8mm video tape to SCVD?

SVCD is a very nice format. Not as good as DVD quality MPEG2 or DV but it is still a lot better than VCD or VHS.
I use TMPG Encoder which is a good sharewere solution.

8mm isn't much better than VHS, so techically VCD would be comprable, and SVCD a bit of overkill. SVCD doesn't have the pixel resolution of DVD but is certainly higher in resolution than 8mm.
Choice is yours but if you get a SVCD encoder, chances are it will have a VCD encoder. Compare for yourself which is better. You'll get more video onto a disc using VCD as opposed to SVCD
