HI, I have a yam htr-5440 reciever with ar-16 gauge performance series speaker wire hooked to jbl nsp-1 speaker system. My question is would I benefit from thicker gauge wires and if so what would it do to my surround sound,PLLEASE HELP!

Robert,
First, Welcome to the Forum!
If you are having trouble with your surrounds, look somewhere else for the problem. Larger gauge wire is never a bad idea, and it might make an audible improvement, but it would be slight, not drastic.

I went to a thicker gauge wire for my surrounds and front speakers and I think it made a definite difference, but I also added an external amp which helped more than anything.

It did help for me; in my haste when first setting up my system, used whatever wire available. Finally noticed one speaker did not match the other during calibration, it was using 18g vs. 14g. Noticable difference.
