Hey guys ( or gals) I am new to this forum. I am looking to upgrade my audio/video system. So far I have ordered a JBL 12" 250watt subwoofer and yamaha RV650 receiver. I currently have a bose acoustimass 7 system. I am not satisfied with the center channel speaker. Its a double cube sitting on top of my tv. I went to Circuit City and listened to the bose vcs10. I was not impressed at all. For $199.00 its not worth the money. I am limited to the size I can put on top of my tv because it is in a built in entertainment center. I have bose 100 as my rear speakers. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am willing to change out all of my speakers. For my front speakers I have the double cube bose mounted on a bracket in the corners at ceiling height. I am looking for a good sounding system that won't break me.
Also I am looking at the Sony DVD players. The one I am interested in is the model dvp-nc875. Have any of you had any experience with this model. I am open for suggestions on different models as well. And finally I am looking for a HDTV. Again I am limited to the size that will fit my entertainment center. The models I am looking at so far are the Mitsubishi 48515 or the Samsung 46" DLP. I like the DLP but I am not sure which manufacturer to choose.
Bottom line is I am looking for input on the systems some of your have or some you suggest.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Kenny, first off I have to ask "What is your limit" on spending? How much money do you, or can you dedicate to your HT system? Knowing this we can help in many ways that you have not even thought of yet. First off anything you get will be better then the Bose stuff you have, or anyone has, secondly you want to lay down a plan on how much you can spend, and what will work with your house, like in wall speakers or towers or bookshelf’s.

Cheers

How narrow is the space between the top of your display and the entertainment center? Will it stay the same if you're changing displays? Do you need to stick with "lifestyle" type speakers such as Bose?

Be patient, there is football and playoff baseball on today. Things will pick up torrow when everyone is avoiding work.

I have $500-$600 to spend. I already have the receiver and the sub. I only have about 4" above my tv. Is there anyway the center channel can be put on top of my entertainment center. That will be about 30" above my tv.

Hi Kenny,

I suggest checking out this Tyke package. Check at audioenvy or the av123 forum to see if there is someone near you for an audition.

Kenny,
Sure you can put your center on top of the entertainment system, as long as it isn't TOO far above or below the TV. I've seen many people get stands for their center so that it sits JUST under the TV. That is a good setup if you can manage that.

For $500-600 dollars, I suggest, as always, a 5.1 Paradigm Atom surround system. You should be able to get two pairs of Atoms and the matching cc-170 center for about $600. You will be sufficiently pleased by the sound that these speakers produce. If you search around on this forum, you'll find reviews about the Atoms. Also, I've read a few reviews that rave about the Infinity Primus 150's, but I've never heard them. I KNOW that I love my Atoms though. You can only get Atoms from an actual dealer so you HAVE to listen to them before you buy. :)

I suggest using your existing Bose double cubes as surrounds and focusing the $600 on the front three speakers.

Also, as an aside... you mentioned that you have your Bose cubes mounted in the corners at the ceiling. Most people will tell you that this is the worst position for them. When rethinking your new front 3 you may want to try to line them up a little lower.

Hope all goes well!!

Thanks for all the input. I am strongly considering the paradigm mini monitors up front along with the cc370 center channel. I listened to them today and they sound awesome. Does anyone else have this setup.
