I am using my JBL EC35 and E50s with my Yamaha HTR-5560 but have never calibrated the volume levels with an SPL meter. I do have the DVE disc but haven't bought an SPL meter which will cost around $40. Would it really make that much of a difference?

    Absolutely, (In my Experience)
I once saw someone else post, - One of the best audio ‘upgrades’ they had ever spent funds on. I agree.

Well, it can help attain equality in objectively measured sound levels of different speakers.

It can't make bad speakers/receiver sound good. I am not saying you have bad speakers/receiver. I am just saying, if you aren't satisfied with your system, a SPL meter isn't going to fix it.
