Recently I watched Autumn in New York with Gere and Ryder on DVD. It had the worst dialogue I'd ever heard. Here are some gems from the first hour (as far as I could make it).

Gere: You don't dance. You float.

Ryder: What shall we do with this moment that we're in?

Gere: I have nothing more to offer you than this, until it ends.

Ryder: Are you going to abandon the universe and me for a cafe latte?

Gere: I'm old enough to be your father.
    Ryder: I'd prefer uncle.

Gere: You look at me in a way I haven't earned.
    Ryder: Okay, then earn it.

Gere: Food is the only beautiful thing that truly nourishes.

Sorry for not hanging in until the end as I'm sure there were more gems, but I think I deserve a medal for making it as far as I did.

Peew, There's some pretty bad stuff there, but is it really any worse than the oh-so witty quip every action hero makes before dispatching a bad guy? Testosterone makes dialog as bad as estrogen.

    Episode II

"When I'm around you, my mind is no longer my own."

"...And now that I'm with you again, I'm in agony. The closer I get to you, the worse it gets. The thought of not being with you- I can't breath. I'm haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me. My heart is beating ,hoping that kiss will not become a scar. You are in my very soul, tormenting me...."

"Just being around her again is intoxicating."

"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth."

WayneG, you forgot to mention the most offending bit from Autumn in New York:

Ryder (while eating): I feel like such a pig.
Gere (actually proceeds to impersonate a pig!).

    (shudder).

I'll raise all my hands for any of the Anakin/Padme lines in Attack of the Clones. Would have been a real return to form for Lucas if that element of the film were done better. The picnic scene was actually pretty good; they both seemed relaxed, like they felt comfortable around each other. But the rest of their dialog, eeacchhh!!

    "Why?"

    "What?"

*shot of Jar-Jar thinking, "Oh crap."*

"Why else were we sent here if not to find the killer? Protection is a job for local security, not Jedi. It's overkill master, investigation is implied in our mandate."

*shot of Captain Tifo thinking, "OK, I'm supposed to be uncomfortable with the tension in this scene, right?"*

"We will do exactly as the council has instructed, and you will learn your place young one."

Uggghhhh, fake tension. I've felt more tension in high school productions of "Oklahoma."
