I am an avid Woody Allen fan and have purchased the first three Woody Allen collections already out. Does anyone have any information when the next batch will be published. I noticed Play It Again Sam was available on DVD but I held off buying it because it might be included in the next batch.

Any ideas or information? Thanks.

The 3 box sets all contain films controlled by MGM.

The remaining Allen films are controlled by companies other than MGM (Dreamworks, Disney, Paramount etc.), so unless those companies get together and split the profits, it's very unlikely you will see another box set...just individual releases.

Disney has released four Woody Allen films under the Miramax label ("Bullets Over Broadway", "Mighty Aphrodite", "Everyone Says I Love You" and "Celebrity"). I suppose there is always the possibility that these films could be released as a boxed set -- but as it stands, all are available individually.

To date only 3 Woody Allen films have not been released on DVD. "Husbands and Wives", which is scheduled for release on April 16 from Columbia Tri-Star, "Oedipus Wrecks" which is part of "New York Stories, and controlled by Disney, and finally "What's Up Tiger Lily?", which I believe is controlled by Anchor Bay.

John,
This movie besides not being MGM controlled, is also not directed by Woody Allen. All of the movies in the MGM set were directed by him and are truly 'his' movies. As for him being the star of 'Play it Again Sam', I doubt he controls the rights to it. I also doubt that the studio responsible for this one will put out a special Woody Allen boxed set.
Of course I could be wrong, so please don't sue if they do so at a later date. :)

Thanks for the responses. I was aware that Play It Again Sam was not directed by Woody Allen but I was not aware that some of the others were already out or not MGM.

I guess I will begin searching these others out to complete my collection.

Anchor Bay has the video rights to What's Up Tiger Lilly but I don't know about the DVD rights. If they do, I'm very surprised that they haven't released it yet as I'm sure it would be a good seller. It is available in Region 2 & 4. I have the region 4 release and it's anamorphic widescreen.
Also, What's New Pussycat has not been released yet and I'm hoping it will be as it's one of my favorite films from the 60's. Although Woody wrote in it and stars in it, he never has a good thing to say about the film.
Also would love to see The Front and Casino Royale released on DVD.

Very interesting - I'd like to see what Anchor Bay would do with it. For one, commentary tracks need not be limited to the director. Criterion has shown that some of the best tend to be critics, scholars and savvy fans.

And the perfect "special edition" would have to include the film with its original soundtrack! If it's a Toho film, then that might make things difficult (they're apparently notoriously reticent regarding licensing their films).
