Fox HDTV = 16:9 Widescreen.
Fox EDTV. Fox hasn't started its native 720p broadcasts yet.
Yeah, but without an HDTV you can't watch those. I remember them really pushing for full-frame Firefly and Joss had to cave in after the first episode aired to lowish ratings. Thankfully he still framed for widescreen... cause the DVDs are the show's main release if you think about it...
Adam.. point taken.. but still 16:9 WS Robert.. perhaps so.. but they were still BROADCAST 16:9 (abiet only on a DIGITAL signal (since Fox EDTV wasn't HDTV, I'll make that distinction)
They may have been framed for 4:3 but Yes they were broadcast in 16:9 Widescreen on Fox's digital channel. I watched every one they aired and loved the show. I'm so glad their coming to DVD.
Well...for the most part, but there are exceptions. Lower-end plasmas and a handful of CRTs (like Samsung's TXN2745FP) can do 480p but are unable to handle anything higher than that natively. I'm not trying to nitpick. Honest.
I guess it won't be so horrible, because the show was filmed with an odd style in the first place... so maybe it'll just add to the offbeat look of the show... Or maybe I'm really really trying to see the glass half full...
Theres 2 updates about the DVD on august 4th, and august 8th http://savewonderfalls.com/
I'm glad the music video is likely going to be included. I loved this, and still have it saved on my computer. The news of the extra commentaries is nice. This is a great show, and I'll be happy to have the entire series. I'd be interested in a Wonderfalls movie. The concept lends itself very easily to a 1 and a half hour film. It works well as a series, but you could honestly do the story justice in a movie time-frame.
I love Wonderfalls... shame on the cancelation... at least we got the dvd... Caroline Dhavernas is a babe!!! Have a nice day!
The date has been pushed back, because of too much competition. savewonderfalls.com
Hmm, I was hoping to spend some time between the years with those DVD's I don't think the competition of other TVonDVD releases would've hurt the show too much, but I guess we'll never know... This way I already have fixed date for a DVD set to look forward to in 2005 (I'm hoping they're going to release "The Shield" S3 around that date as well (as they did last year)!
I can't wait for this DVD to finally come out. I can understand the date being pushed back for the best sales possible.
Here is my review of Wonderfalls.
Fox Digital is how I watched the four episodes I saw. So, I'm glad they're doing the DVD's in 16x9.
So what is the new release date?
Patrick, this is an old thread. It WAS 12/7, then 1/18 - both according to SaveWonderfalls.com; when Fox announced it officially for the first time, they said 2/1/05. That's a week from tomorrow!
Since a reviewer screener was finally out, I figured its release date was finally imminent. Thanks for the info!
Hmm, it is sad to see that only one of the two theme song music videos made it to the set (same structure to both, but the clips were somewhat different), but that is a minor gripe. I hope the sales approach the levels of the Firefly set so that the FOX Television execs can once again feel very stupid. The music substitution situation is frustrating (any statements to that effect in the commentaries or featurettes David?), but probably not a big deal when only four episodes made it to air anyway. David, another question for you. Beyond the grain, did you notice any MPEG blocking or other compression artifacts, especially on the very crammed Disk 3? Thanks for the nice review.
I remember 2 music videos as well. Oh well. I didn't like the idea of cramming these onto 3 discs... but what are you going to do?
