There are plenty of companies that are more closely aligned with the "soccer family" demographic and would be potential corporate sponsors if there was a TV audience big enough to support the sport.
Apparently the WUSA had problems finding them, or convincing them that sponsoring a womens sport team would show a return. (It has been a crappy economy). The national sponsers that I recall (and patronize) were:

Hyunday (3 years)
Maytag (3 years)
Era Laundry soap (1 year)
Gillett Venus shavers (3 years)
Band-Aid (they sponsored the injury-reports) (1 year)
McDonalds (1 year)

There were also local-sponsers that each team signed up like Orchard Supply, Hewlet Packard and some local resturants (Tony & Alba's). These each had ad's in game programs or sign-boards on the fields. But it was not enough.

(sigh)

The Cyberrays are having a "Closing Business" sale a week from saturday. Last chance to buy t-shirts/uniforms.
