I received an email from DVDEmpire this morning (Where I have this title pre-ordered) informing me that this DVD's release is delayed a week to the 13th. I hope the other WB catalog titles due on the 6th don't get delayed.

    Well, this is a letdown.
According to DVD Verdict's review, the commentary track that was supposed to be on the disc is now no more:

Why? Aren't these still enjoyable films for a good price in a quality format? I don't care about the loss of one supplement, regretable though it may be. "The play's the thing".

I myself and a lot of others I'm sure wanted to hear what the filmakers and actors had to say about this film 21 years after the films release... The fact that its coming out doesn't phase me because Ive seen it countless times. Just means now I'm not in hurry like I was to pick it up when it had the commentary...

I had this pre-ordered but now I've cancelled. It was the commentary track that I wanted - especially as I don't think Albert Finney has done a commentary before.

oh boy, I pre-ordered this DVD just for the commentary by Finney. I hope it hasn't shipped yet.

Shame on you, WB! That's 3 falsely advertised commentary tracks from you in 2 weeks: Collateral Damage, Wolfen, and The Swarm.

With Evil Dead BOTD, Anchor Bay made a statement that it wouldn't be included on their website.

Warner Bros. didn't let us know about these 3 commentaries not being included.

Also, in the case of Collateral Damage, the commentary from Arnold was advertised in Entertainment Weekly and other publications, with no disclaimer about 'special features subject to change' or anything. You don't call that false advertising?

Having just finished watching the Warner disc of Wolfen, I can say that any fan of the film who denies him or herself the pleasure of this new version in a snit over a missing commentary should seriously reexamine their priorities. This new version is head and shoulders above any previous video version I've seen, and a huge improvement over the widescreen laser, which had major video noise. The detail and texture of the cityscape, which is so much a part of the film, have never been more vivid, even in the many nighttime scenes. And for a 2-channel mix from the early 80s, the soundtrack has a remarkable amount of presence, detail and (with the right decoder) surround immersion. Despite the sometimes choppy editing (one gets the feeling that a lot more exposition was shot and then eliminated in favor of atmosphere), Wolfen remains a distinctive and spooky film, and this DVD is the best it's likely to look for a long time.

I buy DVDs for the film, not the features. Anyone who shares that philosophy won't be disappointed.

Michael, I'll be honest. I ordered this title just to hear what Albert Finney would say and how he would conduct himself during an audio commentary. I've never seen the film, but nevertheless, Warner Bros. scammed me into pre-ordering this title. It's now sitting on the table next to me, unopened, because at the time I found out it had no commentary, it was too late to cancel my order. As you can guess, I'm pretty bitter about the whole ordeal. I'm sure that when I get tired of pouting at WB, open the package and watch the movie, that I'm in for a treat. But with the fact that Warner is getting away with falsely promising Finney as well as Michael Caine on The Swarm and Arnold on Collateral Damage (the latter being on a national scale, with false ads in Entertainment Weekly and other magazines), it will be several weeks before that will happen.

You're aware, I assume, that the reason the Schwarzenegger commentary wasn't included was because Arnold demanded, at the last minute, to be paid for recording it?

I think Arnold should still be paid, even though he never recorded it. Warner used the non-existant track to sell copies, long after it was known that he would not record the track.

You have a bright future as an agent. But I wouldn't recommend a career in corporate accounting. [IMG]
