In fact, Reeves must have really loved playing his character - why else would he have joined Winter in providing the voices for the first series of the animated version?

Yeah, where are those? I would LOVE to see those again. They did a great job of keeping the spirit of the films intact. A step above the standard Saturday morning crap.
