Me and my friends have been arguing about this rumor for the past two weeks. You know, the rumor about the guy who hung himself on the set of the Wizard of Oz? If you look in the scene where Dorthy and Co. are walking down the road on the way to Emerald City, you see something dangling in the middle of the woods. Watch the clip of the link i provided, the link has some good info about it too. I don't know if it's true or not, it just seems odd because Scarecrow looks right at it, trips then gets back up and walks more. Give me your opinion about what you think of this rumor.

The link to the video clip is at the bottom of the page.

It looks like a large bird flapping its wings.

I've heard conspiracy theorists claim that the current home video versions of "The Wizard of Oz" edited out the "hanging," but I don't believe that at all.

It's one of the hoariest "Hollywood Urban Legends" around. There IS though a large bird flapping around in one of the shots. The whole nonsensical nature of the story seems obvious enough (just read the reams of info on the actual making of the film), the more you study the actual production the more ludicrous the tale becomes. :b

I can't access that site from work, but isn't it the one that provides rational explanation as to the plausibility of urban legends and the like? If so, then this myth is dispelled on those very pages, leading me to wonder why you are still skeptical.

Hey, I don't care what they say, I saw a ghost during Three Men and a Baby, and it's the spirit of Mikey from the Life commercials, whose stomach exploded from ingesting Pop Rocks and Pepsi while hiding from the Doberman in the closet.
It happened to my sister's college roommate's hairdresser, so you know it's true! [IMG]

    Ryan,

Read the page for the link you provided. It explains it all. Basically, it's a large bird.

To confirm, it's one of the large cranes walking about throughout the scene--there are a few strutting around, just keep your eyes open...

I don't know, the last entry of the DVD Savant's saga pretty much convinced me it's all a cover up [IMG]. If you haven't read it, it's pretty funny stuff. I mean, why NOT murder a munchkin on a busy movie set and leave it in the final cut of arguably the most watched movie of all time for everybody to see?

Number 1 reason it is dumb. The body would soon be discovered, especially if the Scarcrow noticed the death.

At that point you simply RESHOOT. This wasn't a film on a tiny budget that couldn't afford to shoot a scene featuring someone DYING in it.

Maybe if this was a rogue clip not found in the movie, then I could believe that this happened and that the film was discarded immediately. Of course it would still need to be developed. But even if the producers thought it didn't show up and developed it anyway, they would still closely examine the footage and then discard it when they saw what we would see.
