Looks like the new Making Of documentary will replace the old Angela Lansbury one, so those who enjoy that (it's nostalgic for me, anyway) will have to hang on to their old disc.

Amazon also has three other versions up for pre-order.

I hope the 3D conversion is successful.

    I'll definitely be ordering it.

These covers aren't as bad as I thought they might be. Though I'm not too sure about 3-D still, but I will have to see when it comes out. Is too early to know if it's going to released into theaters again like they did for the 70th Anniversary?

Has there been any indication they are going to do any screenings of OZ in 3-D?

A few new bonus features - will probably double-dip for, I think, the seventh or eighth time (if you count VHS). Don't have 3D capability but it's nice to know the option will be there.

Is there a release date? I would be interested in the 3D version.

I bought the 70th anniversary collector's box, so I am not too enthusiastic about getting another big box'o'junk.

But the 3D combo pack is something I will consider.

Hopefully one of those smaller sets will have the MGM documentary on it. I already got a big box version from the last release.

A new documentary might be really interesting, but I've always wondered why the documentary made by Aljean Harmetz based on her nonfiction account of the making of the movie has never been presented on one of these Oz releases over the years. Rights issues, maybe?

I haven't watched it in decades, but I did videotape it when it aired, and I have the tape around here somewhere.

I've always wanted to see that documentary.
If I remember correctly, there were clips of archival interviews with cast members like Margaret O'Brien on the 1999 DVD, but were dropped in every release after. I'd love to see those in full.

I'd also love to see some of the vintage introductions from the TV broadcasts.

I will be curious to see comparisons of the new transfer to the previous Blu-ray release. It's hard to imagine it looking much nicer on the current format. If there's any notable improvement, I'll trade up to that bare-bones disc when it hits the right price.

They can keep the 3D conversion in that vault with all the colorized video masters over at Turner's place.

Looks like they kept all the Blu-exclusive features from the separate Target/box-exclusive 3-disk Blu, including the John Ritter movie and the TNT documentary, the silents, and, as noted, dropped the SD special.
Whew. For a second there, thought I wouldn't be able to sell the '09 3-disk back to Amazon.

(And like the, ahem, other current 3D Oz movie, looks like the 2D disk will be the previously existing Blu-ray. No problem there, IMO.
Unless the list is incomplete though, no mention of "Memories of Oz"--more reminiscences of fans watching the movie on TV--and "We Haven't Been Properly Introduced", the cute rundown filmography of where else you might've seen Frank Morgan or Margaret Hamilton.)

I never got around to picking up the last two box set releases. I won't make that mistake this time around.

    So....am I to understand this isn't a brand new Blu-ray transfer?

In other words, unless you want the new box-o-junk, it's the same
transfer that was in the 70th Anniversary set?

That would save me a great deal of money as I will only pick up the
    3D/2D combo.
