While anxiously waiting for the new batch of MoFi CDs to be released, I thought it'd be fun to put together a wish list of CDs that we hoped would get the MoFi "treatment." I realize some of these would qualify as wishful thinking, but... Anyway, here are some of mine to start it off (they will be rather arbitrary and eclectic, some older releases, some newer release, so be forewarned!):

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

Sting - The Soul Cages

John Mayer - Room For Squares

Any Dave Matthews Band

Frank Sinatra - Live At The Sands (w/The Count Basie Orchestra)

McCoy Tyner - NY Reunion

Any Beatles

The David Grisman Quartet

Any Bela Fleck

Mike Broadman,
They are being resurrected by Music Direct (www.mofi.com). There were supposed to be several CDs released last month, but it never happened. I presume they'll be out soon. Here's the list:
Patricia Barber - Cafe Blue
Patricia Barber - Modern Cool
Patricia Barber - Nightclub
All of them are hybrid SACDs meaning that they have a CD layer and a SACD layer.

Elusive Disc has Barber's MODERN COOL & BLUE CAFE in stock. I ordered them. I think the new Mo-Fi is only going to make SACD/CD hybrids. Best wishes!

I visited the web page- they list their Rush gold discs at $120
Why so expensive? Do they wash dishes and shovel driveways?

Mike Broadman,

The reason they are so expensive is because (A) they are new/sealed and (B) the "first run" is out of print. You may want to try E-Bay instead...I see Rush discs out there all the time, so you may be able to score one for considerably less than that. Search under "Rush MFSL" and you're sure to find some hits. A quick search uncovered the following titles:

Moving Pictures

Signals

2112

Subdivisions

Subdivisions?

That's a song on Signals.

I have the three Rush ones (Moving Pictures, 2112, and Signals), and two of the three have problems: "Limelight" on MP has a screwup at the beginning, and (IIRC) there's some missing lyrics on "The Weapon" on Signals.

AFAIK, they were never fixed.

My bad...I'm not really familiar with Rush's body of material.

I'd like to add James Taylor's "New Moon Shine" to the wish list...what a great CD!

Excuse me for saying so, but what's the purpose of this thread? I'm sure everyone has favorite albums, and a subset of those are ones they'd like to see remastered by MoFi ... or DCC ... or Steve Hoffman ... or ad nausem. But, unless you know of some business deals that I have yet to read about, that doesn't mean that MoFi will be able to gain rights to them for a CD release. So far they've released or are set to release Patricia Barber ... who isn't exactly Sinatra when it comes to sales.

There are many, many movies I'd like to see Criterion do, but I don't think a vague wishlist of them is going to do anything but waste bandwidth.

Again, I'm not trying to be rude, but I just don't see what purpose this thread serves other than for people to list their favorite albums.

Greg Yurkovic,

I apologize if my thread bothered you, but it was basically just for fun! I've seen many a thread similar to mine on HTF, so with the new batch of MoFis being released, I just thought it'd be something people would like to particpate in...that's all.

I really didn't want to respond to your post for fear of wasting more bandwith, but...

I think it would be a good opportunity for labels that don't yet have their feet wet with a Hi-res format to introduce some product as an SACD through licensing. Obviously I don't know the ins-and-out of such agreements, but I'd love to see some of the albums MoFi used to have on CD re-released as a hybrid SACD. Dark Side of the Moon, anyone?

Greg,

We do this all the time on the HTF; you can always opt out of the discussion...

One benefit is that sometimes label people get wind of a chat discussion and will anonymously monitor for ideas to get a feel for what people want. I am fairly sure this has worked in the past at HTF in the Movie/HT software section.

I think, in fact, that if we could get more participants from the record labels, we could have some real interesting discussions.

Has anyone received one of the new Patricia Barber MoFis yet? I got mine yesterday compliments of Elusive Disc.

Lee,

I wish I could tell you that I heard a big difference between it and the redbook CD, but I can't. I think that the redbook CD sounds damn good, but I've only got a CD-R of it, so I decided to pick up the MoFi version. Also...although this is a bit picky, one thing I miss on the new MoFis is the lift-lock jewel case. The new jewel case in better than a regular one though.

Ron, I think many CD's are well enough done that it's not a night and day difference. The CD layer on the Rounder releases I have took careful listening and repeated listenings to realize that the bass line was more solid and less boomy. To me, it was sort'a like the difference between a CD and an MD copy, a little less detail. Focus in on little things and I bet you find differences. Best wishes!
