I am planning on a dedicated HT room along with a bar in my basement. I will have Direct TV hooked up to both area but was wondering if I should wire all of my Direct to a closet so the boxes are not visible? Is this what most people do?

Not necessarily. Lots of people like to have their equipment visible and accessible. You might want to browse through our HT Galleries and take a look at what others have done.
