Is it better to install WinXP Pro or Win2k on a 533MHz computer? I think MS website says 233MHz min. for XP but I am still unsure.

    Geoff,
I am running XP Home on a PIII 550 with 256Mb RAM and it runs fine. Not lightening fast, but no speed problems related to the OS.

I've successfully put it on several old PIII 450s with 256MB RAM (though they were happier when I was able to bump one up to 384 and the others to 512 RAM). One word of caution, you may want to disable the new UI and make it look like Win2K in appearance, as that helps performance a bit.

but otherwise you should be fine.
