According to IMDB, the film has an OAR of 1.66:1.

The review states the disc is anamorphic.

We all know MGM doesn't do anamorphic on 1.66:1 films.

    So....

Is IMDB wrong about the AR, is the review wrong, has MGM changed there mind or is the DVD overmatted?

Considering this is part of MGM's "World Films" line, one they have so far put very little effort into, I would suggest waiting for more reviews.

Ok, so then we have narrowed it down to either....

    1. IMDB has the wrong AR (not unheard of)
    2. MGM went ahead and overmatted it

If it is truly 1.66:1, I'm sure it was overmatted in a ton of theaters (especially in North America).

It looks great and the disc is really loaded to the gills. I still am furious with MGM for what they did to "Miracle Mile," which I didn't pick up, but this great-looking (and sounding-- nice work on the 5.1 sound!) helps defuse my anger.

I agree with Glenn Erickson in his Savant review that it's weird to see the black-and-white footage look really black -and-white-- it always had that odd blue tinge from the color stock on which it was printed.

I just bought this blind based on Mr Erickson's review! [IMG] [IMG]

I like Savant. Mr Erickson is a really knowledgable and passionate about films and he always answers e-mails graciously.

I really wish he would visit HTF from time to time. [IMG]
