Are their any winemakers or beermakers out there and if so,let us know what you do to change certain wine/beer kits to make them better.Share your secrets...
My only suggestion is do NOT use GLASS bottles until you are damn sure they won't blow.
Ah, so THAT'S why they recommend plastic over glass to beginner brewers.
The thing I worry about is sterilzation and the cost of the equipment. I really really want to start my own brewing, but I'm not sure how much it would cost to get durable, good, easy-to-clean equipment.
The hard-core brewers here will scoff, but I still use my Mr. Beer brew keg. Its cheap ($30-$35), comes with the first batch of ingrediants free, and is purposfully sized at 2.5 gallons (exactly 1/2 of 5 gallons which what most non-Mr. Beer beer kits are measured to make) Its easy to clean, and not to big, but not too small. Makes 8 liters per batch. I use a product called b-brite, which I believe is a copy of that Oxy-Clean stuff you see on info-mercials. The reason... it will kill germs, but will not kill your yeast like bleach or household sterilizers will.
