Take advantage of an NT based OS, leave it on.
If you're going to do that, at least have ACPI put the PC and monitor in sleep mode, after 15 minutes or so idle.
Otherwise, if the monitor goes to screen saver and the PC stays awake, that's about 150-200W continuous draw, 24/7. That's 108KW/hrs per month, most wasted.
And, I do see a speed increase with measured tests on one drive. The last partition is on the outside of the drive, where angular velocity is higher (about 25%, according to my tests). It can stream faster there, that's why the video streams should go there.
