EDIT : QUICK QUESTION: Do I NEED a special computer to run Windows Media Center Edition?

I just want the WinXP MCE interface on my monitor and the option to use the wireless extender to make it go out to my TV.

So can I put WinXP MCE on my Dell P4 NON Media Center PC?

In a word, no to the first question and yes to the second question.

Google'd this: Do I NEED a special computer to run Windows Media Center Edition?

And came up with this

http://board.iexbeta.com/lofiversion...hp/t44716.html

Look a couple of paragraphs down and see how your computer stacks up.

(Don't hit enter when posting a response otherwise you'll edit it like me - what, five times or something? :) )

There are also other MCE-like programs, and they allow you more control over things like codecs used for DVD playback, etc. One is Media Portal, and it's free over at mediaportal.sourceforge.net There are selectable interfaces as well, several of which look very much like MCE.

wow..media portal looks great.

I think im gonna go ahead and get it. Of course I'll need to purchase some other items to make it visible on my TV..but hey, thats the point right? NEW GADGETS!

Thanks!

Quick glance....

Is this thing for real? And it's FREE?!

Does it work as promised? Does it come
with a downloadble TV scheduler?

Would love to hear a few words about
how well this thing works.

Check the website, the forums there, etc. Yes, it's free. It's opensource. It's rather new, so they are releasing updates frequently. I know the DVD playback (VMR9 renderless) seemed somewhat buggy. I haven't tried the other sections of it.

But it is MCE-like GUI, features, etc.
