    >>There's a major bug in Win XP that could delete the contents of entire files, even your entire Windows directory>>
This according to a friend of mine. I've never heard about it, so I just wanted to check with some tech heads who might no more about it than we do before downloading any file...
    http://grc.com/intro.htm
is the link he gave me.
    Any info will be appreciated..

One of the hosts of The Screensavers broke the news earlier this week and actually demo'ed the flaw. It's REAL! Either download the XP Service Pack if you have a fast connection, if not the "fix" at GRC.com is good enough.

GRC is a legitimate site, I would take that seriously.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Unfortunatly, my regular dialup connection is so damned slow up here, that I can't download the entire file without the thing logging off the internet. Just to give you an idea, it takes me five hours for that 30 MB SP1 file. The 100 MB one is definetly out of the question, and I won't have access to the Jersey Shore cable modem untill sometime next weekend...

Sigh... Maby I can use this as a leverage to finally get a cable modem installed here......

I know how you feel Neil. I try downloading the update for my TV tuner card(no native XP support) it was 12 meg. I got to 10 neg and my service threw me out.

I wish I had installed an accelerator program because now I need to start from scratch....D'oh!

Copied and pasted from The Screensavers website:
If, for whatever reason, you don't or can't download the service pack, there is an alternative. There's a file you can rename or delete to fix the security hole. Here are the steps:
Perform a search for a file on your C drive called uplddrvinfo.htm.
Once you've found the file, delete it or rename it. Doing so will not hinder your ability to use Windows XP.
For more information about the security hole, visit Gibson Research.
