Windows XP: HTPC Edition coming (1 Viewer)

It's called "Windows XP Media Center"
It will come with a remote control that has windows keys on it, and PCs specifically designed for media playback adn they will be manufactured by HP,NEC, Samsung and others.
It also looks like it will only be available in these prefab units.

Yea it sounded cool at first but I will always be building my own computers rather than buying a Dell or HP. It's not a snob thing, I just like to know what parts I'm using and where they're from. And I doubt the prefab computers will come in Dign cases.

Scott, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to purcase the remote and other neccessities separately. Personally, I can't wait. I've been thinking of building somthing like this myself.

I think this is just a new user interface for Windows since the desktop and taskbar isn't very TV friendly or workable with a remote. And it looks like Microsoft is going to keep a tight leash on it, allowing only manufacturers that meet their criteria to sell it.

We'll see. It could be that Media Center is to Windows as Microsoft Bob was to Microsoft Office.
