I am trying to create a Windows Media file (WMV), but every time I try to create such a file, the program crashes. I've tried using Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Encoder. Both programs stop responding as soon as I try to save a file as WMV.

I used to be able to use Windows Movie Maker to create WMV files, but I recently installed Windows Media Encoder, and now I can't use either program to create the WMV files.

I started another thread about MPEG-2 playback problems in Windows Media Player which also started after I installed Windows Media Encoder. (Since I think the problems may be related, I posted the link.)

Can anyone help me fix this problem?

What are your source files? WME is picky about which files you try to convert.

I was trying to convert an AVI file. The video (720 x 480) was compressed with HuffYUV, and the Audio was uncompressed.

Prior to installing Windows Media Encoder, I was able to use this kind of file as a source in Windows Movie Maker and create a WMV file.

As a test, I tried converting a file that I had successfully converted to WMV before. Now neither program is able to convert this same file to WMV.

What version Huffyuv is it? When I "upgraded" to 2.1.2 it gave me a weird output file that it wouldn't let me edit. Programs would crash like you're describing. I went back to 2.1.1 and everything went back to normal.

Have you tried converting other codecs to WM9?

    I'll try that too.

I went back to 2.1.1 and WME worked again. Thanks.
