I downloaded it for Win98, and the audio was noticeably lower quality than the previous version I was running. The whole thing sounded really thin- obviously messed up. Might be an incompatibility with my audio system...

You aren't the only one Vince. A lot of people are unhappy with Winamp 3 --- I've found it to be very buggy myself and I wasn't at all happy with the sound quality.

Thankfully I still had the installer for the last version.

WA3 is bloated; slow to respond; but the skins are neat.

    I'm sticking with 2.8

    Good:
    - The skins are great.
    - The fade in and fade out feature when one song is over and a new one is beginning is great.
    Bad:
    - The volume does sound lower and imo, a lot "duller."
    - Too slow to respond.
    - Some of my favorite skins from Winamp 2 aren't supported on this version. [IMG]

I've heard a lot of complaints about Winamp 3 so I'm sticking with 2.8.

I had it, i was okay with it. But after hearing these guys, i converted back to 2.80. Theres nothing wrong with WA3, just slower, more features, more bloated.

I hope they continue development on 2.x as needed, but probably not [IMG]
