Winamp 3 beta 3 is the coolest player I've ever seen, hands down, no contest! [IMG]
It supports true transparency under 2000 and XP, which means you can set opacity at 80%, set Winamp always on top, and still see through to the other applications underneath.
This new version also has anti-aliased edge support, and some of the new skins are truly magnificent. I'm officially freaked out about this new release... Yummy!

Wow, thanks for pointing out the opacity. I really wouldn't have noticed otherwise. I was happy enough that this release played without crashing. [IMG] This is icing on the cake.

Oh and the new version really cut down my CPU usage!!! Love WinAmp 3.

Kelley, on the Winamp 3 download page there's a group of text links under the one big download button for Winamp 3 itself... One of those is for the Winamp 3 skins. There aren't many there right now, but the list is certainly growing.

Are there any functional differences....or is it all cosmetic?

The interface options are much different, and vary from skin to skin. You can have it just like your 2.xx Winamp, or you can use a skin that looks a lot like Sonique, but without Sonique's clunky playlist.

I like the crossfade functionality too, ie when listening to a set of songs the songs fade in when switching. Rather a cool effect.

I tried using the kaolla skin, among others. They look great, but their layout is godawful.

I decided to stop playing hide-and-seek with Winamp and just loaded the default skin.

    Thanks for the heads up.

This question may seem dumb, but how do I set up transparency for programs and such under WinXP?

    Thanks.

I really like the corner amp skin. Very unobtrusive but easy to get at when you have to.

Also very clear as to what button does what, IMHO.

    Andy,
Sorry, but to get Transparency in XP, the program has to call the functionality (Like Trillian or Winamp3) OR you can buy software from Stardock that allows you to do this for ANY program in XP. It's called WindowFX. It's $49 subscription, but well worth all the really cool functionality it allows you to do with skinning, transparency, startbar replacement, and shadows. It enabled me to have a true HTPC with a custom look.

I think it should be pointed out that the one-year subscription is for the Object Desktop package, which is a whole slew of programs including WindowBlinds and WindowFX etc.

I'm also a subscriber, definitely lets you create a cool looking - and very functional - desktop.

I had to get rid of WinAmp 3 for the time being:

Doesn't sort by pathfilename (have you tried sorting 80+ tracks?)

    Doesn't use CDDB

Without these, I can't use it. When the final version comes around, I'll definitely use it. Until then, it's WinAmp 2.78.

WinAmp 3 = a version of WinAmp that finally shuffles worth a damn!

I have 1000+ MP3s on my hard drive here at work and with 2.xx I was constantly hearing the same 10 over and over again.
