The one that started it all--George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD [1968]! To accomplish what it accomplished, to go as dark as it went, all in the late '60s...*shudder*...it's untouchable.

Thanks for the contest Sam.

For me Dawn of the Dead '78 extended version is the best zombie movie ever but you really can't go wrong with any of Romero's films (yes, I even like Land of the Dead) but I have to give props to Savini's Night remake, Shaun of the Dead, Re-Animator, Planet Terror, Braindead and 28 Days/Weeks (if you count those as zombie movies which I do not but others do).

Re-Animator
(If this doesn't count then Day of the Dead - underrated film, and cool opening music)

I must absolutely vote Shaun of the Dead. While there is a lot of absolutely super classic zombie movies, this by far is my favorite.

What, no Return of the Living Dead?!

Nah, me neither (though I like it). The original Night of the Living Dead ('68) for me, all the way!
