SYNOPSIS

"The best picture of the year! Filmmaking on a grand and rare scale." - Richard Schickel, TIME

One of the 20th century’s most compelling figures, Howard Hughes was a wily industrialist, glamorous movie producer and unstoppable American innovator – but he thought of himself first and foremost as an aviator. In this spectacular epic, director Martin Scorsese focuses on the most prolific period in the life of Hughes (played by Best Actor Golden GlobeÒ Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio): the mid-1920s through the 1940s. It was a time of brilliant aeronautical invention, turbulent love affairs (including one with Katharine Hepburn, played by Cate Blanchett) and savage corporate battles. Prepare yourself for the ride of the lifetime of this billionaire, genius, madman.

So it seems the R1 has the additional featurettes mentioned above after all. Nice.

I haven't seen the film in theaters, but this is a definite blind buy for me.

Ugh, no. THAT was even worse than this "plane escape from the glare of giant Leo head" art. I wish they would have done some 20's or 30's era artwork style.

Better yet, make it "Hell's Angels" style, with Howard and Kate in the upper corner and the race plane or maybe even Spruce Goose coming out and have the title in that big bloated overpowering font typical of the era.

What's really bizarre is that Universal released HELL'S ANGELS barebones on DVD with absolutely no fanfare and no attempt to tie it in with THE AVIATOR. Oh well, at least it's out, looks good, and it's cheap.
