Any latest news on the rumored John Hughes box set? Pretty In Pink releases this tuesday, here's the review from DVD File, along with Some Kind of Wonderful. If the box set remains indefinite, I'm gonna pick up these two dvd's and not the Hughes box if it ever releases.

Universal was planning a boxset, but it's not been released, and as far as I know, there's not date...

I do remember hearing that they completed the extras for the set, but I'm not sure exactly what movies would be in it... Universal owns many of his...

    Weird Science
    The Breakfast Club
    Sixteen Candles
    Uncle Buck

Cary, buy them. A John Hughes box set would most likely only contain movies DIRECTED by Hughes, as opposed to ones written by him.

It would be cool if somebody (I'll assume Universal) could put out a multi-studio box set, a la Kubrick and Oliver Stone. In one box, you could have (or divided into their respective subgroup boxes):

    Teen Comedy/Melodrama:
    Sixteen Candles (Universal, 1984)
    Breakfast Club, The (Universal, 1985)
    Weird Science (Universal, 1985)
Pretty in Pink (Dir. Howard Deutch, Paramount, 1986)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Paramount, 1986)
Some Kind of Wonderful (Dir. Howard Deutch, Paramount, 1987)

    Adult Comedy/Melodrama:
Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Paramount, 1987)
    She's Having a Baby (Paramount, 1988)

    Family Comedy:
Great Outdoors, The (Dir. Howard Deutch, Universal, 1988)
    Uncle Buck (Universal, 1989)
    Curly Sue (Warner Bros., 1991)

Naturally, purists would only want those movies he's directed (having produced 24 movies since 1985, it would be a huge box set in that case), but Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful are so often associated with Hughes, perhaps it should be the 8 movies Hughes has directed, plus the 3 he produced with Deutch directing. Those are listed above, and fit into box sets surprisingly well (although only 2 "adult comedy/melodramas" hardly a box set make).

Perhaps that box could include a third disc of the special features that Paramount couldn't be bothered to include in the first place.

Back on my meds (and proudly using that phrase in HTF since July 17, 2002),
