I read a review on the release of Shrek on DVD recently. The article went on to state that they expected this DVD to surpass the sales of Toy Story!
The article did not specify whether this would include Toy Story 2.
Is Shrek really good enough that it will outsell Toy Story on DVD?

Well I bet Jordan's career it outsells Willy Wonka Fullscreen.
But seriously folks...I think Shrek will defeat Toy Story 1 for the championship belt.

I have a strong feeling that it will, indeed, outsell TS. First, it was the only strong Family Summer BlockBuster. Second, it was one of the 1-3 decent movies that came out in the last 7 months. Third, regardless of dvds that appeals to most avid collectors, it's been a slow3 months for DVD releases for the casual collectors. I can see most people picking up a copy of SHREK at their local COSTCO for around $14.98 when it comes out....

To be honest, I think the numbers will be about even, with Shrek maybe gaining a slight edge.
    Rob,
What I want to know is this: did the article state what version of Toy Story they were using for comparison? There's three of 'em (2-pack, Ultimate Toy Box, Movie-Only) as well as the upcoming Pixar Anniversary Box...are they saying Shrek will outsell all four versions combined?

I heard the same radio ad. If it is on the radio then it must be true.
I for one am very excited about all those deleted scenes [IMG]

It's ADR feature alone is cool enough to make it outsell just about anything. It sounds gimmicky, at first... but it really isn't. Not to mention all the other extras, let alone the fact that it's a good flick, at a really cheap price!
I can't wait to own it, fwiw. [IMG]

Plus, Blockbuster has a deal on it (got the flier in the mail today) pre-pay for 10 rentals, and they'll give you the DVD free. I figure a few people may leap at that as well.
It's got a great marketing campaign behind it. I liked it (though I didn't think it was to me as good as TS2) and it has been a horrible year for the collector.... first film to come out really worth grabbing in a while.

More dvd players are sold every day,
this makes for more potential purchasers.
Better movie or not this will likely out-sell
    Toy Story 1 & 2.
    Personally though....
Shrek as entertaining as it was was not half the movie toy story was......(My opinion only)

This isnt that great a deal. The average price of a rental is $3.50 Times that by 10 and its $35 est.

Personally, I think that while Shrek may have an initial sales boom, Toy Story will have more staying power and in the long run will have better sales. The Pixar 3 pack due out soon will be a deciding factor as to how well Shrek fares against Toy Story. I liken Shrek to Chicken Run; Dreamworks' sleeper hit of the summer that everyone will be temporarly dying to grab hold of before something else comes along to make them forget about the big green ogre. Toy Story will always be a "Must-Have" classic that everyone who buys a DVD player will just have to purchase. Just my never-humble opinion.

Universal-Dreamworks will be seeing "Green" in more ways than one. With Shrek and Grinch coming soon, they may have the number 1 and 2 best sellers of 2001. Both are family films to boot and will make excellent Christmas presents.
Will Shrek outsell Toy Story? Absolutely.
