    For thoses of you who don't know the film there is information on it here:

    http://www.evaotaku.com/Anno/loveandpop.html

    Here are the two current Japanese DVD releases {both without English subtitles [IMG]}

    and

    And here is DVDBeaver's review of one of the discs:

    I first heard of this film through a programme that was on here in the U.K. A presenter called Jonathan Ross visited Japan and just basically showed what was going on there at that moment. This film was the big film that was about to come out so they showed some footage of it, intervied Anno and showed the cameras that had been specially made for the film. When I saw all of this I REALLY wanted to see the film. This programme was like about 5 years ago now and there has still been no news of a DVD release. I emailed Criterion asking whether they'd consider licensing this and Anno's film after but they said they couldn't consider them.

    Does anybody know of any news on this film? Any R2 DVD owners wish to share how the disc is? Thanks!

    I have both r2j's, here's a comparison i made for asiandvdguide:

    My comments to go with the captures:

    Re subtitles, i made scripts for both versions. I finally got hold of a translation of the new scene, more infout about that at the bottom of this thread:

    If like me you use a htpc and projector (computer monitor will work too of course) using a script with dvdsubber and your a/v filters of choice is no different from watching a normal subtitled dvd.

    Thank you Very much for the reply!
    So, what do you think of the actual film? Being a big Anno fan, will I be disapointted or will I love it?

    If you like NGE especially the last 2 episodes and END OF EVANGELION and SHIKI-JITSU then don't worry you'll love LOVE & POP. SHIKI-JITSU is a little bit different in that it's more conventional in terms of plot and structure. And less experimental. (though i would hardly call it a 'normal' film)

    LOVE & POP is in my top 5 favorite works of art. It was also the first anno film i saw. I'm not into anime so i only recently checked out NGE, and was blown away by the metaphysical and poetic beauty of it all. And the similarities are endless, both visually and thematically. Again, expecially in the last 2 eps and EOE.

    And while you're at it you should get shunji iwai's LILY CHOU-CHOU NO SUBETE. Iwai (he played the part of the director in SHIKI-JITSU) is obviously anno's biggest fan. While the film lacks the purity and introspection of anno's work, visually (and musically!) it's right up there.
