Barfly stars Mickey Rourke, Faye Dunaway and Alice Krieg. Produced by Francis Ford Coppola.
One of my absolute favorites, but only available on VHS. My VHS copy is pretty much shot.
    Anyone hear of anything?

I sure hope that it makes it. I'm a huge Charles Bukowski fan and I know that he makes a cameo in the movie, but I don't remember where. I own the screenplay, written by Bukowski, but I haven't seen the flick for about 7 years, and I remember really loving it.

This is a rough quote from the film.

    "Do you hate people?"

"No, I just prefer it when they're not around"

I love this film! I saw this in the theaters when it came out and it was a very interesting experience because there was this drunk guy sitting right behind me in the theater. He kept making loud comments & his girlfriend had to keep telling him to shut up through the entire film. It was an interesting way to watch a film, plus I could smell the alcohol on him so it definitely heightened the atmosphere & feeling of the film.

This is one of my favorite Mickey Rourke films (probably second behind "Pope"), he gave a great performance, maybe the best of his career. Sadly, I've nothing about a DVD release. I have the full frame laser, released by Warner, but I'm not sure if they still have the rights.

One of the greatest films of all time! I have been waiting for this on DVD since DVD became a format. Mickey Rourke is awesome as Henry, and Frank Stallone has a great performance as Eddie the bartender. Those fights they have are great. Classic Henry quote to Eddie - "quittin' to you would be like swallowing piss for all eternity!"

BTW, anyone notice that the leader of The Plan group on Six Feet Under is Tulley Sorenson from Barfly?

Can't wait to pick up the DVD.

A great film with a great performance by Mickey Rourke, it may be his best ever. I saw this in the theaters with an actual drunk sitting behind me!

Good movie, but there are three Barbet Schroeder films I'd much rather see on DVD first (AFAIK Criterion/Home Vision owns the rights to all three):
Maîtresse Starring Gerard Depardieu as a burglar, who gets caught in the act by a professional dominatrix (Bulle Ogier) and has to serve time in her dungeon -- a classic if ever there was one.
Also two films legendary for their Pink Floyd soundtracks:
More & The Valley (Obscured by Clouds)
    Ted

Oustanding movie, I love this flick. You watch Rourke in this film, then in crap like Wild Orchid, and you really wonder what the hell happened to him. I even had a T-shirt with Rourke on the front, yelling out "To all my friends!!"

I'll buy this as soon as it streets. Great movie.

    Great news!

My VHS copy has about 2 plays left before it disintegrates.

The extras will be great too.

    Can't wait!
