Wide-screen "crooked"? (1 Viewer)

Hi. Newbie here learning a lot. Question: When I watch a movie on my new Sony (don't have the model number handy) dvd player in wide-screen (black bars on top and bottom of picture; I'm pushing my technical langauge skills now ) it seem the picture is a little skewed on the monitor (32" Toshiba 32a41). Put another way, the black bar appears just a little bit wider at the left side of the screen than the right side, which also seems to make the picture tilt a little. By a little bit, I mean to the point my wife says she doesn't see what I'm talking about. The tv is level and the picture is excellent on the black bar edges and elsewhere. It just seems skewed a little. No problem of course in full screen.

Is this common or my imagination? Is it the tv or dvd player? Any other suggestions? It is very minor but I'm the kind of guy who notices and am curious about these things; as it seems many on this forum would.

Thanks! (And thanks for a fascinating forum.)

Does your Toshiba have a tilt function in the user menu(like the Sony Wegas)? If not then you will have to access it in the service menu, if you feel adventurous.

Not really, but it's worth a shot. If it doesn't, then do a google search on Toshiba Service Menu, and you can see how complicated it'll be to adjust.

maybe its the dvd player?? on my dvd setup disc (cheap one from On cue) there is a thing that you can allign your letterbox/widescreen and raise it so many notches. I think that may be your problem, as I dont think your tv pic would have that slant (and if it did it should have a tilt funct in the menu)

Thanks, Dave. I've had a hunch it might be the dvd. Reason is I don't remember it being that way for the first few dvd's I played but then it tilted (barely). I'll research your suggestion, also. Is the adjustment standard on a dvd player?
