1. In the movie trailer when a Techie is asked to 'hack' the planet, he says "I'll need Star Trek tapes and Hotpockets".

I thought it was a great line, but in the actual movie they changed it to 'Xena' tapes!

Why would Paramount take out such a great line and remove a plug for their best franchise?

    Do they own Xena too?

I remember it as Xena in the movie. Xena is a Universal franchise.

If I recall, they had a different line for each of the TV spots. They probably had nerd boy do the different ones to see which had the best response. The ones I remember were Star Trek, Xena and Kung Fu.

    Omigod, omigod, omigod . . .

How can we ever know which version accurately represented the director's artistic vision?

I've actually been miffed that some takes weren't used in the film. Right off hand, I really thinking that James Bond's reaction in Die Another Day that his car flipping move was successful was cut much more successfully and used a better take in the trailer than in the final film. Additionally, Will Smith's reactions in the trailers for MIBII were better in the trailer (especially to Frank's singing). Of course, that couldn't save the movie from being terrible.

I also think some of the takes used in A Few Good Men are great, but perhaps they work better in a high energy trailer than they would in the film.

Crap; you mean that wasn't in the actual film? I was trying to remember that line as the best part of the movie. It was in the Revolutions teaser at the end of Reloaded wasn't it?

Maybe there really is no reason to buy Revolutions.

It was in the film, but he said it more sarcastically in the preview after Reloaded.

They did this in Scary Movie III too. There are a couple VERY funny scenes in the trailer that are NOT in the movie. Pretty strange practice IMHO, but I bet we see more of it.

I suspect that the different takes of a line, such as the Kill Bill (although I love the version of the line as delivered in the film) and Matrix Revolutions (and some of mine as well) are included because they are great takes of the line, but aren't selected for the final film for some reason or another.

Kind of like a director having it both ways - they get their favorite take in the trailer and the one that works best for the film in the final.

i HATED the line/delivery in the trailer - it's Tarantino at its worst. the film version i don't remember being that bad.
