Personally I'm mostly done with eBay, especially with media purchases. I've spent $6.20 on the site this year, for a used DVD copy of The Rockford Files, Season Two because I wanted a copy of the series pilot movie that wasn't included in the Blu-Ray set but was an extra on this DVD set.

So yesterday, with the passing of Bob Newhart, I wanted to watch an episode of The Bob Newhart Show from the 70's. I've been close to buying the Shout! complete series box in the past, but have passed because of other priorities and it's usually been free on one of the streaming services I have (Hulu and Amazon Prime as I recall). Anyway it's no longer available on Hulu, and now I have to pay to watch it on Amazon Prime (another hazard of streaming is the disappearing shows, but that's another conversation) so that was a no-go for me.

I then went online to survey the market for the box set, and for "fun" I check eBay - in my search the "best match" was the Shout! box set with the bonus disc and booklet (which is long out of print and no longer available from Shout!, now they sell a set without the bonus disc or booklet) from China (with a 95.6% approval rating) for half the cost of what Shout! currently lists their current set for ($41vs $80). This is obviously a bootleg and yet it's on eBay as a "best match", and I better act fast as this retailer from China had three sets available, though two had sold in the last 24 hours and there is only one left. I just "noped" out of there and didn't even bother to sift through the rest of the listings on eBay, I just can't waste my time there.

Caveat emptor, as they used to say. Once I'm ready to buy, I'll just pay the premium and order it directly from Shout!.
