Is it just because there is no TV that supports it? You could pipe the output to a projector or plasma screen with VGA input.
Are there any technical limitations? I would have thought that PAL would be easier to 'progressify', as there isn't any pulldown to deal with.
I find it strange.
Sony have TVs that line double, but thats just interpolating. But it means that the tubes can display 576P. I'd just prefer them to have a 'real' 576p image to display.

My understanding was that Malata N996 was capable of producing progressive PAL output.
