In addition to being hard to find, on Ebay they're going for $25US & up. Also is there much difference between the regular version & the SE, picture & sound wise?
It's a 2-disc special edition. SRP is $30. $25 is certainly reasonable.
The original edition of The Crow was non-anamorphic and had a bad transfer (the contrast was off in the first few minutes). There was a second release that supposedly corrected the contrast problem, still non-anamorphic and in the same packaging.
The new 2-disc SE is a major improvement, and well worth the cost.
The Crow was originally released with a non-anamorphic transfer, DD 5.1 (IIRC), and just the trailer.
The special edition is a two disc set with a new anamorphic transfer, DD and DTS tracks, commentary, and a whole second disc devoted to special features. If studio politics didn't get in the way, we could've also had another commentary (with Alex Proyas) and a 90 minute documentary dealing with the making of the film. :frowning:
I didn't buy the original release of the Crow because I saw it for like 22 bucks, and thought it was expesnive for what it offered and everything. Then I saw the SE and I believe it was 24, so I picked it up becausae I thought it was worth it with all the extras and such that came with it.
If you like the flick, go for it. New anamorphic Pic. looks GREAT!!!
Extras are pretty cool, too.
Interview w/ James O'Barr.... woah! That dude has MAJOR issues! Brilliant, though! D
