Why has The Grey Fox never made it to disc (DVD or Blu-ray)?

Sorry, title should be "...to disc..."

It was a very good movie and Richard Farnsworth was excellent.

If I had to guess, I would think a right's issue exist or the company that holds the rights don't have a deal with anybody to release it on disc.

Truly a gem of a picture that captures a very different aspect of the western that was rarely done by the Hollywood system. Monty Walsh, Will Penny had sort of the same vibe, what happens as time progresses and how to cope when what you know and understand has passed you by. The film was originally part of Zoetrope along with the Black Stallion; I consider this one of the small masterpieces from that studio.

If the Zoetrope deal is still in effect then the distributer should be Lionsgate?? I think, as far as I know the only release was VHS. Farnsworth is outstanding….

Not particularly a fan of Westerns, but...

Fond of supporting this type of release(along with Breaking Glass, Synapse...etc)...

    Who all is partaking?

(I got, over the weekend, a returning customer "coupon"...which made this even easier to decide on)

While going the "open matte" route wasn't the most desirable, nevertheless it can be properly matted by those of us who have the means to do so. I will definitely get this.

It's possibly too late, but Panamint should be urged to matte this properly to the theatrical aspect ratio.

It's not going to happen. They have already released a statement saying that they believe 1.37:1 to be correct. As long as it is not zoomed, I'm okay with it.

I was really looking forward to this, but, personally, I'm not okay with it. These things are important.

I checked their website. Grey Fox will be black & white.

    Odd, and a pity.

How can such discrepancies between theatrical and disc presentations happen these days? You'd have to imagine that somebody doesn't just "throw" a film like this on a BD, that the market for a BD (any BD, these days) and this title in particular is a somewhat "discerning" customer, perhaps even an educational institution.

It says "color" (or colour) in their opening blurb:

"May be PRE-ORDERED now for delivery week beginning November 16. Collector's Limited Edition. "The Grey Fox" (1982, colour)...."

RAH's dry humor continues to evade people. :) Google the term "fine grain master" if you want in on the joke.

Intriguingly, I posted on Panamint's Facebook page in response to their announcement of the release of The Grey Fox. It appears now that both the Facebook announcement (and my post regarding the AR) has been removed.

    So...

What would be the "proper term"?

Eastman made fine color film from 1950 to 1977...that "technically" would allow said term on movies made using that stock. Which, I'm sure, this one does not apply...
