I went to the local Blockbuster (previously had issued ONLY FS new
Warner Titles) and lo and behold, "Insomnia" was available in WS only!
All copies were rented out and there were about 40 more issued as
"rain checks." I asked if they had seen anyone complain about the WS
only issue. No. Did they advise people it was WS? Yes, to prevent
complaints. This was after the people came up to the counter with
them. So, if Joe Public is willing to watch WS without too many
complaints and people who prefer WS will go elsewhere to rent their
DVDs, of what VALUE is it for Blockbuster to offer FS only DVDs?
The answer is NO value and LOST business.

A lot of retailers make generalizations of what is wanted.

Some of the most popular titles on DVD are widescreen-only.

Fullscreen DVD just needs to be weened off.

I don't get it either. The movie is made in WS, what is so hard about putting it on a DVD? Did they forget where the 'start' button is? [IMG]

You know, I'm pro-widescreen. And I don't like the fact that some places may rent or sell full screen only DVDs. But everybody on this forum is preaching to the choir. It doesn't do much good to complain to people who agree with you. Go spread the word amongst the non-believers.....

Instead of posting a gripe or complaint on this forum, why don't you go to a local Wal-Mart or Blockbuster and complain to the manager? JMO.

I lodged a complain to the assistant manager of my local Blockbuster, whom actually sympathized with me. She's actually smart and prefers widescreen and is constantly educating customers. How the heck did she get hired at Blockbuster, where it often seems that the rule is the less you know about movies, the better? I too was telling people at the store while my sister tried to decide what R-rated movie I wouldn't let her rent. And a few listened and learned. Others didn't.

Oh well. After this recent turn and the price raise on the free-rental with purchase cards, I guess I'll be heading back to my favorite mom and pop.
