Probably a silly question, but I have seen this name used alot on this forum, and am wondering if someone can shed some light on my ignorance.

Not to toot my own horn too much, but I'll take the credit for "XBoxen"... [IMG] I was actually pretty surprised to see it take off like that...
I got it from a Brian Regan routine about plurals.
"I got two boxen of doughnuts!"
    Moosen!

I immediately thought of Brian Regan when I saw this thread [IMG] That guy is so funny.

That guy cracks me up. Anyone ever tried actually ordering an extra-medium soda? [IMG]

'Boxen' is a fairy common plural for several computer machines. Certainly its rare to hear of a bunch of old VMS machines being called anything other than Vaxen.

I think it sounds cool and have taken to using it in real life, much to the bewilderment of my co-workers.

Well if you ask me the plural would be Xboxes.
Xboxen is a verb that is descriptive of an activity. For Example. I was Xboxen when the girlfriend came home. Boy, was she pissed I had not taken out the trash. [IMG]

    XBoxes is not fun.

What is fun is people trying to figure out the plural for a computer mouse.

I hate those Meeces to Pieces!

Yes, the proper plural is meeces. Not mice. Or mouses. Meece is an acceptable alternative, though if you'd rather.

If you read UserFriendly at all, you'll notice they use the term "boxen" to describe multiple PC's. Since the X-box is just a glorified PC, I think the description fits. [IMG]

So does that mean that two or more Gamecubes can be called "lunchboxen"? [IMG]

Reminds me of the story about Samuel Goldwyn, who needed a pair of certain animals for a picture, but was unsure of the plural of 'mongoose'. He was heard to say, into the phone, "Send me a mongoose. While you're at it, send me another one."
