    Hi all,
My old computer won't boot from my Windows 2000 CD anymore. I've set the boot sequence in the BIOS, but it just doesn't find the boot record on the disc.

I get the message SEARCHING FOR BOOT RECORD FROM CD-ROM...... NOT FOUND and then it continues to boot normally from the hard drive.

The CD drive works just fine otherwise, both reading & burning.

I've reinstalled Windows many times on this machine by booting from this CD, wiping & formatting. It just doesn't want to do it this time. Any ideas why?

    System specs:

Gigabyte 7VTXE+ (edit: newest BIOS already installed)
    Athlon 1800 XP+
    512mb DDR RAM
Quantum Fireball HDD 13.6gb (Primary Master)
    LG CD-RW (Primary Slave)
    40gb secondary drive (Secondary Master)

    thanks for any help!

Sounds like the problem may be your disc, not your computer or your drive. Do you know another 2000 user who can lend you a CD? Or have you tried cleaning and/or repairing the existing disc?

    Regards,

    Joe

    Thanks for the reply, Joe.
I should've mentioned that I made a new backup copy of the disc & had no success.
Maybe I'll try making a totally different bootable CD through Nero to see if it will be recognized at boot time.

    Cheers,
