...I'm talking about The Legend Of 1900, a.k.a. La Leggenda del Pianista sull'Oceano, a.k.a The Legend Of The Pianist On The Ocean, which stars Tim Roth in the title role, and also features Pruitt Taylor Vince, Bill Nunn, Peter Vaughan, Niall O'Brien and Clarence Williams III as Jelly Roll Morton... and yes, it is an English-language (not a dubbed-into-English) film, made in Italy (just as Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty is an English-language film made in Italy, and Wolfgang Petersen's Enemy Mine and The Neverending Story are English-language films made in Germany)...

Why buy a single-Region DVD player when a Region-free NTSC/PAL DVD player is available for roughly the same price?
I recommend the following non-R1 DVDs (R1 available) which are the versions containing OAR, OSL, PCM, non-speedup sound, anamorphic widescreen or any combination as appropriate -
OAR
Anatomy of a Murder (R2 PAL)
Babe (R2 PAL)
Chariots of Fire (Japan R2 NTSC)
The Commitments (France R2 PAL)
Sting (R2 PAL)
Moonstruck (R2 PAL)
Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (France R2 PAL)
The Karate Kid (R2 PAL)
PCM
Cats (Japan R2 NTSC)
Michael Crawford in Concert (R2 PAL)
BeeGees One Night Only (Japan R2 NTSC)
Supernatural Live Santana (Japan R2 NTSC)
Andrew Lloyd Webber Celebration (Taiwan R0 NTSC)
Anamorphic Widescreen
Big (Japan R2 NTSC)
Full Monty (Japan R2 NTSC)
The Last Emperor (Japan R2 NTSC)
Planet of the Apes (1968) (Japan R2 NTSC)
Raising Arizona (Japan R2 NTSC)
Scream (Japan R2 NTSC)
Speed (Japan R2 NTSC)
The Towering Inferno (Japan R2 NTSC)
Trainspotting (Japan R2 NTSC)
The Usual Suspects (Japan R2 NTSC)
Young Frankenstein (Japan R2 NTSC)

I didn't know of the Studio Ghibli films being out with English subs in Region 2. Can anyone post more about this - i.e are PORCO ROSSO, TOTORO and others really out there with subs? They sound like must haves...
So far only
Kiki's Delivery Service
My Neighbor Totoro
My Neighbors the Yamadas (Takahata)
Princess Mononoke
are out in Japan. The rest are coming
Unfortunately many of them are dubtitled, the translation is close, but not quite a cigar. If you already know and love the film, I don't think it's too much of an issue, especially since we'll be lucky if Disney finishes the Ghibli catalog by 2027

A few more titles that have the better R2 counterparts:
Bound (R2 anamorphic)
Stargate (R2 anamorphic, DD 5.1, DTS)
Three Colours (Blue, Red, White trilogy - R2 anamorphic)
The last (three) are not available in Region 1 whatsoever.
