whats the difference between a Harmon Kardon 220 and a 225, same goes for the h/k 320 and 325. Are the lower numbers simply older models?

You got it, buddy!
The 225/325 are this years models and the 220/320 are last years.
The 220 (5x45), 225 (5x55)and 320 (5x55)are 5 channel receivers whereas the 325 (7x50)is a 7 channel receiver.

thanks for the quick response. WHy are the h/k's rated so low in wattage, I find it hard to pay between 5 and 8 hundred bucks for a reciever that says 55x6 etc. The onkyos always outnumber the h/k when comparing the recievres in the same price range.

Ignore the numbers.

With H/K you are getting more, not less, quality amplification for your $. As has been discussed around here a number of times, manufacturers differ in the ways in which they rate the wattage of their amps. H/K and NAD are perhaps most conservative in terms of their receivers' wattage ratings.

Having owned both H/K and Onkyo I would tend to agree that H/K tend to be more truthful than most other brands. I think when you look at an H/K at 5x55 vs an Onkyo at 5x80 they are probably a little closer than it appears.
