THE CREDITS

Beetlejuice is back! Oscar-nominated, singular creative visionary Tim Burton and Oscar nominee and star Michael Keaton reunite for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to Burton’s award-winning Beetlejuice.

Keaton returns to his iconic role alongside Oscar nominee Winona Ryder (Stranger Things, Little Women) as Lydia Deetz and two-time Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt's Creek, The Nightmare Before Christmas) as Delia Deetz, with new cast members Justin Theroux (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, The Leftovers), Monica Bellucci (Spectre, The Matrix films), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon) in his feature film debut, with Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things, At Eternity’s Gate).

Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

Burton, a genre unto himself, directs from a screenplay by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Wednesday), story by Gough & Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO® Batman Movie), based on characters created by Michael McDowell & Larry Wilson. The film’s producers are Marc Toberoff, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper and Burton, with Sara Desmond, Katterli Frauenfelder, Gough, Millar, Brad Pitt, Larry Wilson, Laurence Senelick, Pete Chiappetta, Andrew Lary, Anthony Tittanegro, Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg executive producing.

Burton’s creatives behind the scenes includes director of photography Haris Zambarloukos (Meg 2: The Trench, Murder on the Orient Express); such previous and frequent collaborators as production designer Mark Scruton (Wednesday), editor Jay Prychidny (Wednesday), Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Sleepy Hollow), Oscar-winning creature effects and special makeup FX creative supervisor Neal Scanlan (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman (Big Fish, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman); and Oscar-winning hair and makeup designer Christine Blundell (Topsy-Turvy).

A Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Next month it's coming out, this has to be the fastest release I've ever seen; 2 months after being released it's now going to be on home video.

I was shocked when I saw the press release. Couldn't believe how fast the release to home video was.

I know films have shorter windows from theatrical to home video, but if a movie is only going to be in theaters for 2 months before it's home video release; there's no real reason to go and see it at the theater.

This movie's been a box office success and almost duplicated the original's of being #1 for the entire month it was released.

This kills movie theater exhibition, no doubt

Three preorders just posted on Amazon for a SteelBook Edition, Standard 4k release, and Blu-ray. See top post

The digital release date is October 8, which is a 33-day window. Universal gives most of their movies 17-day windows, so WB is still doing a longer theatrical window than that.

Most WB titles tend to be 45 days to digital and a little longer for the disc. But I'm sure Sam is right. They want this to be available physically for the holiday shopping season. If they're going to do digital next week, the disc being in November doesn't do any more damage to theaters than that does.

I don't love the strategy either. But this is just how it goes now.

I think the digital date is also intended to capitalize on the Halloween season.

Plus, it's my understanding that the longer a movie is in theaters, the greater the share of the ticket price that goes to the exhibitor. So given the choice between a $20 ticket sale or a $20 digital sale, they'd rather get the $20 digital sale.

Of course the benefit of the theatrical window used to be that they'd get two bites at the apple, once in theaters and once on home video. But most of the studios are only worried about the next quarterly earnings report at this point.

The studios have also made arrangements with theaters that when these titles come out as “premium video on demand” during the theatrical window, the theaters get a cut of the digital revenue, so it’s not really as simple as saying “early digital releases take money out of theaters’ pockets”.

Market research also indicated that PVOD wasn’t really cannibalizing theatrical revenue because the audience that partakes in these $20 rentals doesn’t really overlap with the theatrical audience - for the most part, these are people who were never going to come out to see it in a theater. It turns out most of them are people who watch movies on subscription services who are willing to pay more to see a movie sooner while it’s still brand new and in theaters.
