Amadeus stars Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham as Antonio Salieri, Academy Award nominee Tom Hulce as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Elizabeth Berridge as Constanze Mozart, Simon Callow as Emanuel Schikaneder, Roy Dotrice as Leopold Mozart, Christine Ebersole as Katerina Cavalieri, Jeffrey Jones as Emperor Joseph II and Charles Kay as Count Orsini-Rosenberg. Amadeus was produced by three-time Academy Award winner and Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award recipient Saul Zaentz. Yes. It’s a scene that was essential. It also would not have messed up the pace of the film and would have been additive.

I'll be surprised if the price drops a ton. Also, I'm guessing WA won't have this available digitally for purchase. Both are guesses on my part, so we'll see what happens in the coming months.

Totally agreed. In retrospect, the theatrical cut is now somewhat damaged by that particular scene's omission.

True enough but it was referred to as a DC when it was released.

I agree with you and Rian Johnson’s take on it: Rian Johnson argued that the Director's Cut "is bizarrely a sort of inverse master class in editing: It shows exactly why the cuts were made in the first place & how they made the film work

It was part of the money movement of the time. DC=$$$. Scott’s revision was inferior to the theatrical cut.

I laugh every time I read that Forman did not cast Diane Franklin as Constanze (after Meg Tilly had to bow out due to injury) because he felt she was too beautiful to be believed as the daughter of a landlady. Did he not know that the role was originated by the beautiful Jane Seymour?

He alao refused to cast Mark Hamill (who had been playing the part against Abraham on Broadway) as Mozart as he didn't want Luke Skywalker in his movie.

This was on top of passing on Kenneth Branagh because Forman wanted nothing but Americans (or at least Brits who could do convincing accents) in it.
